When Trump meets Xi, what of Taiwan, what of North Korea? President Donald Trump spoke with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe Wednesday to discuss North Korea’s most recent missile launch.
“The President emphasized that the United States stands with its allies Japan and South Korea in the face of the serious threat that North Korea continues to pose,” the White House said in a readout of the president’s phone call. “The President also made clear that the United States will continue to strengthen its ability to deter and defend itself and its allies with the full range of its military capabilities.”
The two leaders also “agreed to stay in close communication to enhance cooperation on North Korea.”
Trump met with Abe last month at the president’s Mar-a-Lago resort, during which North Korea also conducted a missile test.
North Korea’s most recent launch comes just days before the president plans to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping’s at Mar-a-Lago this weekend.
